MAC Pro Palette Review and Photos

Yayy! MAC finally released a palette that is practical for makeup artists and of course for makeup lovers in general. The new MAC Pro Palette is a sturdy, extremely versatile and customizable palette. A lot of you may notice that it looks similar to the zpalette that is very popular in the makeup industry.

As of right now, these Large Pro Palettes are only available at free standing MAC stores. Not quite sure when they will be available elsewhere but I’ll definitely keep you posted if I find more information on them. This Large Pro Palette retails for $18.00 $8.00 USD for the empty palette without the 15 eyeshadow insert (which I didn’t purchase for several reasons) or $27.00 $2.00 USD for the 15 eyeshadow insert.

*Note: The eyeshadows in the pictures did not come with the palette. I purchased all eyeshadows and palettes individually

Pros: What I love about the new pro palettes are the fact that we as customers are able to choose whether or not we want the eyeshadow inserts or not. We are able to customize our palettes in a more beneficial way for our liking. For people like myself who used to take out the insert in the old palette…this new pro palette is definitely for you. We will not be wasting the inserts like we did right?!?

I also love the clear casing of the new palette over the older ones. I am able to see what colors are in the palette; very ideal for makeup artists. Another huge plus is the fact that the case opens flat as you can see in the picture above. This way we are able to place palettes right next to each other without wasting space on a makeup table or setting at makeup gigs. Huge THUMBS UP MAC for creating an AWESOME palette!

Cons: The only down fall (which isn’t a biggy in my opinion) is that this new palette a tad bit smaller than the older ones. As you can see in the picture above the new pro palette holds 2 eyeshadows less than the older one. It doesn’t bother me much but I was hoping to get a bigger bang for the buck for the new palettes since they are a little pricier than the older ones.

Also, this may be a con for those of you who label their palettes on the inside cover of the palette, you will have to label them differently or label them like I do…under each eyeshadow.

Yes, the new palette is a lot bulkier and smaller but this too can be a pro or a con depending on your preference. For me, I don’t find it a problem and I’ll let you be the judge for the sizing difference between the old and new pro palette from the pictures you can see above…what are your thoughts on the size differences? Will you be purchasing the new Pro Palette?

Although the new palette has its pros and cons, I prefer the new pro palette over the older ones! The cons do not bother me at all. If you’re wondering what I’m going to be doing with my old MAC Palettes (I have 5) I will be recycling them. 😉 I will use them as palettes for my depotted eyeshadows from other brands…

SUMMARYPrice: $18.00 $8.00 USD – alone without eyeshadow insert | $27.00 $2.00 USD – eyeshadow insert

Availability: Only available at free standing MAC stores as of right now.

Overall: I’m in love with the new packaging and everything about the new large pro palettes. The large Pro Palette is extremely durable and more practical for makeup artists as well as general makeup lovers. They are extremely versatile and customizable for customers. Definitely recommend these palettes for everyone!

The older palette seems better to me just because it holds more which is pretty important if you’re doing various peoples makeup – various looks.

hi, i have a question that i hope you’ll answer!

since you didn’t purchase the inserts, did you stick a magnet below each shadow so that they would adhere to the base of the palette? i don’t quite get it. is the bottom of the new palette made of some metal?

    thanks in advance!:)

    • Brigette says:

Hi K, that’s a great question. 🙂 Since I didn’t purchase the inserts, I already had magnets on the back of the eyeshadows from the older MAC pro palettes. The new pro palettes have the same metal base so you will need magnets to make the eyeshadows stay in place in the palette without the insert.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions…

  • Em says:

Hi! What eyeshadows are the bottom 3rd and 4th? Thanks for all the info!

    • Brigette says:

Hi Em! The 3rd is Print (satin) and the 4th is Silver Ring (veluxe pearl). I don’t know if they are permanent or limited edition though. I depotted those shadows a long time ago and don’t remember if they are still available or not. I hope this helps. 🙂

Great review! I had some questions though, Do you own other magnetic eyeshadow pans? Would they magnetize too? (like urban decay or cs hot pots? MUFE? What are the dimensions? 7 x 5? What’s the size?

    • Brigette says:

Hi there. 🙂 Unfortunately I do not own any other magnetic eyeshadow pans like Urban Decay or CS hot pots. I believe the CS hot pots are the same size as MAC shadows and do not come magnetized. I do, however, own 3 MUFE eyeshadows but I don’t know the dimensions off hand. I purchased the MUFE palette that houses the MUFE shadows/blushes…so I do recommend getting that or a zpalette. 🙂

Hi , I was wondering if these palettes are limited edition..? because I have been checking the MAC website and they have said “coming soon” for a long time they say “sold out” usually limited edition products will say “sold out”..I was just curious if you would know??:) I hope not because they seem very nice and I would love one ..thanks ..(:

    • Brigette says:

      Hi Lisa,

I don’t believe that they are LE. I think you can find them at a free standing MAC store. My local store has many in stock…try checking and let me know what you find. 🙂

  • Samantha McMichael says:

Hi I was considering buying this palette but only have 1 mac eyeshadow, does this palette work for other eyeshadow pans as well?

    • Hi Samantha! Yes this palette is able to hold other eyeshadow pans as well but I do recommend getting magnets for other eyeshadow pans because they palette isn’t magnetic. If you want a magnetic palette, I would suggest getting a zpalette. 🙂 I hope this helps.

Hello! I was wondering if you know anyone or anywhere that I can find the old palette for sale? I really just wanted one travel palette but I can’t find the old ones anywhere! I really liked how thin the old version is, and I was disappointed when I went to the mac store and it was not available anymore. Please let me know if you can find one!! Thank you so much 🙂

    • Hi Sophia! I haven’t seen the old palettes anywhere but I’ll definitely let you know when I see any. 🙂 I also may have some extra old palettes in my stash that I can possibly give to you… I’ll have to look though. I’ll keep in touch and I’ll let you know by the end of this week what the deal is. 🙂
